Receiverships

A receivership is where an institution or enterprise is being held by a person placed in custodial responsibility for the property of others, including tangible and intangible assets and rights. This person is known as a “receiver.” A receiver can be appointed by a government regulator pursuant to statute, be privately-appointed, or be court-appointed. The appointed receiver makes large and small tactical decisions, spends the organization’s funds, and controls certain hiring and firing responsibilities, if necessary.
