Malignant mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that develops in mesothelium, the protective lining that covers most of the body’s internal organs. Mesothelioma is usually caused by exposure to asbestos. The most common site for mesothelioma is in the pleura (the outer lining of the lungs and internal chest wall). Mesothelioma can also occur in the peritoneum (the lining of the abdominal cavity) or in the pericardium (sac that surrounds the heart).

Pleural Mesothelioma – Pleural mesothelioma is the most common type of mesothelioma, a rare cancer that develops in the mesothelial cells that make up the mesothelium, a membrane that lines many of the body’s organs and cavities.
