Malignant mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that develops in mesothelium, the protective lining that covers most of the body’s internal organs. Mesothelioma is usually caused by exposure to asbestos. The most common site for mesothelioma is in the pleura (the outer lining of the lungs and internal chest wall).
